Background

Abbotsford House is a family-owned Care home in Bearsden on the outskirts of Glasgow. Abbotsford House was bought in 1989 by Mr Surjit Sokhi and Doctor Caroline Sokhi.

The Sokhi's wanted to convert this mansion in the heart of Bearsden into a care home, to offer a quality service to the ageing community.

Abbotsford House is a well-established award-winning local care service which has been delivering care to older people for over 30 years. The business is still very much a family one, with Mr and Dr Sokhi still owning and operating Abbotsford House. They are assisted by their daughter Dr Kishan Victoria Aldridge.

Kishan Aldridge BSc(Hons), MBChB(Hons), MSc, PhD, MRCS has experience of working in Medicine of the Elderly, Stroke Medicine, Palliative Care, Psychiatry of Old Age and Rehabilitation Medicine. She successfully gained a position on the highly competitive Specialist Training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and the Edinburgh Clinical Academic Track. This provided her with a wealth of experience in Ortho-geriatric Care.

Prior to medical school, Kishan worked as a care assistant in her parents’ nursing home business, gaining hands on experience. Kishan is now involved in the day-to-day running of Abbotsford House and quality assurance. Kishan has brought to this role the principles of meticulous infection control and high care standards that were instilled during her surgical training.

Mr and Mrs Sokhi’s son in law Roland Aldridge MBChB(Hons), MSc(Dist), MBA(Dist) PhD, FRCS, MRCP, DCH, completed his surgical training in South East Scotland. In addition to being a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, he has passed his membership examination of the Royal College of Physicians. Roland achieved the award for Academic Excellence for coming top in his year in The University of Edinburgh MBA. Roland is a Consultant General Surgeon at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Roland has extensive experience of leading teams in safety critical environments. He was involved in the COVID19 response at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Roland has a strong academic background (including an MSc(Dist) in Immunology) that has allowed him to understand the spread of COVID virus. He has built on his already strong infection control experience from his surgical career. He has advised Abbotsford on PPE use and infection control policies.

The organisation is registered with the Care Inspectorate to deliver a range of care services, including Respite, Residential and Nursing Care.
